Scenes from a Trade Show

While every trade show is different, they are general the same in a few ways:

  • large space filled with
  • booths to showcase the company’s products
  • info sessions for educational purposes

Covering a trade show as a reporter is something that takes a bit of getting used to. If you are a magazine staffer, more than likely you will get thrown in and then figure it. I give my students a presentation on tips for effectively covering a trade show. For this recent Luxe Pack NY beauty packaging trade show, in which beauty suppliers (those that make the tubes, compacts, and bottles) mingled and talked shop with the beauty packaging professionals from some of the most famous and niche beauty companies in the world, I followed some of my golden rules:

  • wear professional clothes and comfortable shoes
  • drink lots of water
  • have a computer with back up cord
  • collect receipts

For the show I wrote brief coverage for an on-site online newsletter. I stopped by booths and got info on the latest offerings in the luxury beauty world, then I went to the press room to write and upload it.
